Hii, Miss Dzeelfa,my reading on Macbeth still on going...while reading Act III, Scene II...i attracted to one part,i don't know why but i like it,so i would like to share with you what i feel about this part...it capture my interest to think critically what does it mean.i bet i should not read just by the surface but i tried to figure out more about it.
MACBETH:
We have scotch'd the snake, not kill'd it.(15)
She'll close and be herself, whilst our poor malice
Remains in danger of her former tooth.
But let the frame of things disjoint, both the worlds suffer,
Ere we will eat our meal in fear and sleep
In the affliction of these terrible dreams(20)
That shake us nightly. Better be with the dead,
Whom we, to gain our peace, have sent to peace,
Than on the torture of the mind to lie
In restless ecstasy. Duncan is in his grave;
After life's fitful fever he sleeps well;(25)
Treason has done his worst: nor steel, nor poison,
Malice domestic, foreign levy, nothing,
Can touch him further.

Remains in danger of her former tooth.

LADY MACBETH:
Come on,
Gentle my lord, sleek o'er your rugged looks;(30)
Be bright and jovial among your guests tonight.
Gentle my lord, sleek o'er your rugged looks;(30)
Be bright and jovial among your guests tonight.
MACBETH:
So shall I, love, and so, I
pray, be you:
Let your remembrance apply to Banquo;
Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue:
Unsafe the while, that we(35)
Must lave our honors in these flattering streams,
And make our faces vizards to our hearts,
Disguising what they are.
Let your remembrance apply to Banquo;
Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue:
Unsafe the while, that we(35)
Must lave our honors in these flattering streams,
And make our faces vizards to our hearts,
Disguising what they are.
I interested with this part when Lady Macbeth
convince Macbeth to acting cool like there’s nothing happen. How fake both of
them….lady Macbeth asks her husband to put a smile on his face and looks joyful
in front of their guest. I wonder how good they are in pretending. They keep
their guilt with a smile. They realize at this moment they just want a peace.
Peace in heart and soul. As Macbeth say “Better be with the dead, Whom we, to gain our peace, have sent to peace, Than on the torture of the mind to lie “
.
He is not happy,
he rather be with the dead so he can have a peace. He cannot lie anymore. I
feel pity towards him but why he just follows his wife??He is such a
wimp!!!!!!!!...okay, I’m being emotional with Macbeth….:) .Yaaa….as well as society,
full of fake people. I think everyone have lots of masks, even I am. Sometime
we have to pretend to be someone that we do not want to. But we have no choice,
we got to do what we have to do even though sometime we breaks our
principles. For me, Shakespeare creates a character to reflect our society.
Somehow I think, everyone have Macbeth or Lady Macbeth in theirself.
In restless ecstasy. Duncan is in his grave;
After life's
fitful fever he sleeps well;(25)
Treason has done his worst: nor steel, nor poison,
Malice domestic, foreign levy, nothing,
Can touch him further.
Treason has done his worst: nor steel, nor poison,
Malice domestic, foreign levy, nothing,
Can touch him further.
I don’t
know, if it just me or anyone else thinks this way. At this part, I think
Macbeth jealous with the “dead” Duncan. “After
life's fitful fever he sleeps well;(25) “ The way Macbeth said these words as if he jealous towards
Duncan even though he is dead. Duncan maybe dead but he said that Duncan
miserable has over and he can sleeps well in his grave. They way Macbeth talks, like he really feel envy towards Duncan because of he is lies down in the grave without have to worry about the kingdom enemy.Duncan do not have to worry about anything anymore. I think Macbeth really
crave for peace. At this moment, peace is in a very high price and valuable which Macbeth cannot afford it no matter what he do. He gets the throne but he lost his peace in heart. That's the price he has to pays.
Next part is:
So shall I, love, and so, I pray, be you:
Let your remembrance apply to Banquo;
Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue:
Unsafe the while, that we(35)
Must lave our honors in these flattering streams,
And make our faces vizards to our hearts,
Disguising what they are.

Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue:
Unsafe the while, that we(35)
Must lave our honors in these flattering streams,
And make our faces vizards to our hearts,
Disguising what they are.
“Let your remembrance apply to Banquo; Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue: “ This part, Macbeth asks his
wife not to show their guiltiness in front of Banquo. both with eye and tongue,
I thinks it means that Macbeth ask Lady
Macbeth to watch her words and eyes. Eye is a window to our heart, if we scared,
guilt or sad…eyes can tell that. While tongue, sometimes may lead us to say
what we shouldn’t say, sometimes talking to much reveal our stupidity…I think,
this is what Macbeth mean when he asks Lady Macbeth to respect Banquo, both
with eye and tongue.
Ohh ya,by the way..i found this on the internet yesterday….is a
short poem about Macbeth:
Aspired to the high and the mighty.
Urged on by his wife,
He stuck in his knife,
And the blood got all over his nightie!
-- Author Unknown!
P/S: And the blood got all over his nightie..” Macbeth wears a
nightie? He is a guy,guy don’t wear nightie. See..…I’m not the only one who
thought Macbeth is a wimp…:)
