(2) Macbeth Vs Measure For Measure

Hi Miss Dzeelfa! :)

Its me again, Hanisah.

For this second post, I would like to discuss about the comparison between Macbeth and the other story by William Shakespeare which is Measure For Measure. First of all, let me make it clear. The storyline between both stories are not the same. In fact, it is way too different. The characters and the characteristic are different too, but there is also a similarity between them.

Measure for Measure

Macbeth

The huge similarity between both stories is about the main idea which is about POWER!. For instance, in Macbeth,  they are willing to kill each other in order to ensure that the power is in their hand and to ensure that they can rule the kingdom. On the other hand, in Measure for Measure, Lord Angelo who is the temporary leader of Vienna who is strict, moralistic, and unwavering in his decision-making; he decides that there is too much freedom in Vienna and takes it upon himself to rid the city of brothels and unlawful sexual activity. Because of it, Claudio is arrested for impregnating Juliet, his lover, before they were married. However, Lord Anglo himself break his own rules (he create the rules). he become THE LAW MAKER IS THE LAW BREAKER. This two situation between the two stories shows that power is the main idea of this both masterpiece from William Shakespeare. But one thing for sure, both leaders in Macbeth(Macbeth/Lady Macbeth) and Measure for Measure(Lord Angelo), they rule their kingdom in a very wrong way!

In my opinion, POWER is they key word in both stories!

Thank you! :)

  1. Definitely is! Power can make or break us. it's up to us to decide how to use power.
